About Bronwyn Hegarty

I am a Clinical Psychologist with an open and compassionate style.  I work with adults who are experiencing difficulties with emotion regulation, disorders of mood, anxiety, stress, trauma and interpersonal issues.

I prioritise developing a trusting relationship with my clients that helps them to reflect upon and modify their patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be getting in the way of a balanced, satisfying and authentic life.   I have trained in variety of evidence based treatment modalities including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Masterson Psychodynmamic Therapy. My approach is strongly based in Attachment theory and in emotion-focused techniques.

I come to the practice of clinical psychology by way of a previous career in medical research (BSc,PhD). My career change was driven by a desire to engage more directly with people and help them to live happier, more fulfilling lives. My training in basic science and knowledge of physiology provide a unique perspective that, I believe ,enriches my clinical work.

I have received a number of awards during both my basic science and clinical degrees, including the University Medal in Physiology from the University of New South Wales and the Freestone Prize for Excellence in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wollongong. I enjoy a commitment to lifelong learning and am continually working to expand my skills to help me help my clients.
